The Big Java Bang June 27, 2007

It was our initially sexy perception of Java that sparked the creation of today’s Java universe.
If you take the object oriented and platform independent programming language that is Java and market it as sexy, you might make people want it. It already has a cool and catchy name that’s easy to remember. So all you need to do to make them really want it is make it free and more attractive. You need to highlight its key features and make them look appealing. You have to seduce and capture the whole IT industry and all computer programmers. Once captured, we’ll think that objects are cool and that JVM’s are hot. We’ll start programming in ways we’ve never programmed before. For the first time ever, we’ll write programs once and run them anywhere. This will excite us! We’ll write more Java programs by day and by night. We’ll spread the word and let everyone know. Every programmer will love it. Every platform will have it. Every business will want it. Experts, gurus, and evangelists will emerge. Communities will form. Standards and practices will evolve. Java will mature and become popular. Programmers will use Java for everything. The technology will dominate. It will rapidly peak and then climactically explode. In one big bang the Java universe will be born. Its sexiness will be lost and the good old days will be gone, but we’ll still have the Java of today from that point on.
